Court of Protection
Do you have concerns for a family member, friend or neighbour who you
think is having difficulties in making decisions about their finance
and property or their personal welfare? If there are concerns then they
may need someone to be appointed to make these decisions on their
behalf.
As we grow older we all become concerned about our ability to
effectively manage our finances and make important decisions affecting
our lives. We are able to help our clients prepare for the future by
preparing a document known as a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). This
document allows you to appoint someone you trust to make those
decisions on your behalf, at a future time when you either no longer
wish to or lack the mental capacity to make those decisions yourself.
If you or a loved one has not made such arrangements and are finding it
difficult to manage their affairs, we can help.
The Court of Protection (or Office of Public Guardian) is a judicial
body responsible for assisting people who are deemed to lack capacity
to make their own decisions on finance, property or personal welfare,
so that they are not exploited or denied what is rightfully theirs. The
Court of Protection also regulates those people approved and appointed
to look after another person's financial affairs.
We are very experienced in dealing with a range of Court of Protection
services including making an application to appoint a Deputy,
registering an Enduring Power of Attorney, making a Lasting Power of
Attorney and objecting to a Court of Protection application.
