Alex joined the firm as a Partner in 2019 and heads up our Private Client team. He returns to Darlington having previously been Director and Head of Private Client at a notable regional law firm.


Alex specialises in all areas of Private Client work including Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax planning, Trusts and Estate administration (Probate.)

Alex also has experience with commercial clients, looking at Business Succession Planning and Business LPAs. Having worked for practices in the Durham and Yorkshire Dales, Alex is also able to advise on Agricultural Succession Planning and has a wealth of experience in trust administration and creation.


Alex works hard to assist clients in structuring their assets to minimise the impact of Inheritance Tax and Long Term Residential Care costs securing wealth for future generations.

Alex also has a keen interest in Trust administration, particularly advising lay trustees on their obligations that are quite often overlooked, leading to potential conflict with beneficiaries and punitive HMRC penalties.

Alex strives to simplify often technical areas for his clients and prides himself on being a friendly and approachable solicitor for people often experiencing difficulties in their lives.


Alex is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) which is a global professional association for practitioners who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning. STEP members help families plan for their futures, from drafting a will to advising on issues concerning international families, protection of the vulnerable, family businesses and philanthropic giving. Full STEP members, known as TEPs, are internationally recognised as experts in their field, with proven qualifications and experience.

Alex is also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) a specialist group of solicitors who are knowledgeable and able to support older and vulnerable clients with their legal advice.
